When people usually ask us what our favorite thing to eat is, we both usually start dying laughing because it is not your typical favorite food group. I don’t know how it even started, but somehow, we got hooked on roasted chicken. We love it because we are hungry girls, so most of the time, you’re guaranteed to get a good portion of chicken, and we just love bones (I know, super odd, haha). Anyways, we had a few requests of where our favorite spots are, so we figured we would write a post about it.
Some tips when ordering:
Ask how it is prepared (I usually ask for no butter, if possible).
Order with sautéed or steamed vegetables.
The skin is okay to eat, but it is pretty fatty, so I don’t eat all of it.
If it has a sauce or glaze on it, ask for it on the side.
Now, for our favorite spots:
Mudhen’s Meat and Greens
They have an option where you can create your own bowl, so I usually order the half chicken with green beans and some other green vegetable.
Mr. Mesero
This spot is a Mexican restaurant, but they have a “Crispy Half Chicken” that is AMAZING, and comes with tons of vegetables!
True Food Kitchen
They have a pan-roasted chicken that is pretty good. I wouldn’t say the portion size is huge, but you can order roasted brussels sprouts (LOVE) as a side with it.
Nazca Kitchen
This is a Peruvian spot that just opened not too long ago in West Village. They have a really good chicken that I get with steamed vegetables. You can get their sauces on the side (I love the hot one!)
Central Market
This one is actually not from a restaurant, but you can pick up other vegetables or sides in their prepared food sections, and bring it home for an easy meal!
Stirr
This is actually a bar and restaurant, which has great drinks, too! They have a really good roasted chicken that comes with brussels sprouts, and their desserts are AMAZING!
Smoky Rose
We have both been here, and they have a lot of bbq dishes, and a roasted chicken!
CBD Provisions
This spot is downtown, and has a roasted chicken. We ate here once after a hot yoga class, so definitely not dressed appropriately, but it was good.
The Hall at Trinity Groves
We love their roasted chicken, and then they have roasted brussels sprouts that were amazing!
Other spots that we want to try:
Street’s Fine Chicken
Meddlesome Moth
Stock and Barrel
Chicken At Mudhens Chicken from Central MarketChicken from Mr. MeseroChicken from The Hall
Happy Memorial Day! We hope you all are having the best holiday weekend. We just got back into Dallas super early this morning, so after we get unpacked and all of that, we are headed to see our parents, who just moved closer to us! YAY! We cannot tell you how excited we are. We have been waiting for this moment for eight years. Anyways, with summer being here now, we wanted to share some of our favorite restaurants we have tried recently, or are wanting to try soon! If you all are not from Dallas, we want to share different cuisines that we think are fun to try! First things first, I have to talk about this Memorial Day-inspired outfit! This lace top is perfect with these denim shorts, but it would also be adorable with some white jeans. I love how it looks with these strappy sandals, and this floppy hat. It dresses up a casual look, and accessorizes it perfectly! This tote is a great all-around tote. What I love about it is that you can use it as an every day bag, but you could also use it as a work bag or travel bag. It would also be super cute as a beach tote. Now, onto the restaurants we have tried recently. If you all know us, you know that we usually eat pretty healthy, with the exception of sweets;) We usually are willing to try any new foods, but again, we do eat pretty healthy, so our meals consist of vegetables, and more vegetables, and lean proteins like salmon, fish, chicken, steak, etc. While in San Francisco, we tried Halal Guys, which of course, is Mediterranean, so you all know we LOVED it. We grabbed it on the way to Napa, so it was a perfect pre-wine meal. We also tried Wheelhouse, Za’tar, Dream Cafe, Nazca Kitchen, Water Grill, Cake Bar, and The Hall. They were all very good! I have to admit, I was not a major fan of Cake Bar. To me, the cake tasted like Betty Crocker, haha, but I love the idea of it. I have also tried Korean bbq recently, and LOVE it! Such a fun date idea. Some restaurants/cuisines we want to try:
Who doesn’t love a spa day? On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of getting to experience the amazing spa the Hotel Crescent Court. Many of you all may recognize it from this past RewardStyle conference a couple of weeks ago. Not only is the actual hotel gorgeous, and in a great part of Dallas (if you all are visiting Dallas, or have never been before, you should definitely go check out the hotel, and their spa!) They are actually about to undergo a huge renovation, which I am sure will be incredible!
The Spa at Hotel Crescent Court is a private health and fitness club that offers hotel guests and members fitness programs and spa treatments, as well as a steam room and sauna. The gym had every piece of equipment you could ever need, and they even had fruit-infused water, my favorite! They also have a gorgeous pool with cushioned lounge chairs, and a waterfall. Once I arrived with the other spa guests, we were greeted with champagne with fresh blueberries inside and a delicious fruit and cheese board for some snacks. The hotel staff gave us an overview of some of their spa services, and what treatments we would be getting. We got to take a tour of the gorgeous pool and spa facilities, and then changed into our robes and started our treatments. Their new spring treatment menu includes a 50-minute “Break For Beauty Blueberry Facial + Peel”. Not only does it leave your skin feeling super smooth, it also exfoliates and purifies, and is rich in antioxidants. This treatment is great if you’re needing something quick to remove your dry, wintery skin. My esthetician was so sweet, and taught me a lot about my skin, and the CosMedix precuts he was using on my skin. I love learning about all of that stuff, so it was really interesting to me. I actually got to try out some new products that he recommended specifically for my skin type: Cleanser, serum, and moisturizer.
Following our amazing peels, we headed to Nobu for some cocktails and appetizers. I had never been before, but I had heard AMAZING things. Well, it did not disappoint! I was in heaven. I actually don’t eat a lot of sushi, but we had a lot of dishes that weren’t actually sushi, and I loved them all. Some of my favorites were the okra and the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeños.
Grilled Orka Lettuce Wraps with Fish Sashimi Tacos Yellowtail Sashimi With Jalapeño Seared Salmon Sashimi
In addition to their incredible spa, they have some amazing restaurants. If you haven’t had a chance to eat at any of them yet, you definitely need to! Some of my favorites are Ascension Coffee and Wine Bar, Moxies Bar and Grill, Palomino, Nobu (mentioned above), and Shake Shack. We just actually ate at Moxies the other night, and LOVED it!
If you all are looking for somewhere to treat yourself, or someone special in your life, you all should look into this spa, or even just eating at one of their amazing restaurants! You will LOVE!
Happy Monday! We just got back Saturday afternoon from a quick stay in Austin at the South Congress Hotel (full post coming on that soon, we LOVED it!), and were supposed to be off today to Cabo for a fun few days at the Breathless Cabo by the marina. Samantha lost her passport somehow, and didn’t realize until 6:30 PM that she couldn’t find it, so we are going to try to rebook our trip as soon as we can. We can’t wait to show you all of our trip once we make it out there! Before we get into our favorite spots, we wanted to talk about this super cute, tiered dress! It is the prefect spring and summer dress, it is under $50, and comes in a rust color, too. It also comes in a super fun maxi dress that we want! We are wearing an XS in it for reference. We love it with these slingback sandals (super comfy!)
In case you missed our first post on all of our favorite Dallas spots, you can check out that post here. We get asked a lot from those of you who are visiting from out of town, or just Dallasites, wanting to find some new spots. If you’re looking for a specific type of restaurant or activity, and it is not listed, just email us, and we are glad to help!Today, we are going to talking about one of our favorite neighborhoods, lower Greenville. We happy to live super close to it, so we are probably biased;) No, but honestly, they have so many great restaurants, shops, and bars, and it is all very walkable, which is great! It kind of reminds of us Austin a little bit because of some of the feel and vibe it has, so maybe that is why we love it! So, for restaurants/drinks, our favorite spots we have tried are:
HG Sply Co.
Gloria’s Latin Cuisine
Sundown at Granada
Crisp Salad Company
Company Cafe
Toasted Coffee + Kitchen
Mudsmith
Truck Yard
Here are some we haven’t tried, but want to try:
The Blind Butcher
The Corner Market
FreshFin Poke Co.
Bbbop Seoul Kitchen
Rapscallion
Palapas Seafood Bar
Remedy
Places to shop/desserts:
Dude, Sweet Chocolate
Bullzerk
Steel City Pops
Mockingbird Station is close-by with more stores like Gap, Urban Outfitters, etc.
A couple of years ago, you would never find us working out, or really, doing anything outdoors. Since moving and living in Austin in Dallas, we have loved getting to go outdoors on a beautiful day. Going on a walk or *short* hike is one of our favorite things to do in the early evenings. These Outdoor Voices pieces are the perfect for heading out on a walk, or even for any workout. They are put-together, without having to spend hours trying to piece together an entire workout look. Admit it, you’ve totally been there! We know we have;) These tri-tone leggings have been on serious repeat since we got them. They are higher waisted and they are a great spring neutral. They have them in several other colors, and we totally will be buying another pair to run around in. We have been wearing these for workouts, to run errands, to go on walks, head to brunch, etc. Just throw on a cute tank, like this one, and some sneakers, and you’re good to go!
They also come in a 7/8 legging, which hits right at the ankle. We have that length in these leggings, which are also super cute to workout or run around in! If you’re short like we are, they will hit you right at your ankle, which we love because you don’t have to awkwardly bunch them up at the bottom #shortpeopleproblems. This bra is amazing for several reasons. First off, it has an adorable keyhole cutout. And, second, our favorite part, it has an anti-microbial band that keeps you feeling dry and not sweaty like you get with other sports bras around the band. You can also remove the cups inside. We are wearing the “dove” color, but it also comes in a bunch of other great neutrals. We are wearing an XS for reference. The leggings are also great for sweaty workouts because they have a great stretch to them, and they are sweat-wicking, which is very important when you’re trying to hide those sweat stains;) They also have a hidden pocket in the waist, which we love putting our keys in when we are heading out on a walk, so we don’t have to carry around a bunch of stuff in our hands. We are wearing an XS in the leggings, and they do have a tighter fit, for reference! The racerback tank is great for throwing on top of your bra after a workout, or if you’re heading out for errands and don’t want to run around in just a bra. We know most of y’all are like us, and don’t like to run around with your tummy showing. This tank is SO soft, but it is also great for sweaty activities like hot yoga, running, or working out in the gym.
We have been long-time fans of Outdoor Voices because we love that their pieces are interchangeable with so many options to layer up for your day. They also do carry a men line, which has some great gift options for the guy in your life, just saying!;) { Steeplechase Bra in Dove c/o | Spring Legging c/o | Light Racerback Tank in Navy c/o | Grey Tennis Shoes | Nail Color | Lip Color ” Life of The Party”| Cartier Love Bracelet |Hamsa Necklace Similar Here and Name Necklace Here | WATCH: Michele Deco Watch }
And, now, for one of their classic bras. We are obsessed with their high-neck bras. They are super flattering and show of those hard-earned arms and shoulders. This one does not have cups inside of it, but it doesn’t mark at all, and we love this lilac color for spring. We are wearing an XS for reference, as it does run large. What is great about this bra is that it fits longer, so you could definitely run out post-workout in this cute strappy bra. They also have this bra that has a similar cut, and does come with the removable cups. We tried this one on and also loved it, but they were out of our size:(These charcoal leggings are higher-waisted, so they are perfectly paired with the longer bra. They are a darker color, and a heathered texture, so they’re great for sweatier workouts, as well as with some slip ons for running around town.Since we mentioned that we love getting outdoors and going on walks, we thought we would share our favorite spots to walk around:
You all know we are MAJOR foodies, so we are constantly on Yelp or other apps to find new, fun places to eat! Having lived in Dallas for over two years now, we have gotten a chance to try a ton of restaurants and find places that we go to on the regular. We thought we would share a quick little list of the restaurants we love and what our favorite dishes are to get there!
We know when we are traveling or visiting a new place, we always try to find all the best local places, so if you’re ever in Dallas or if you’re from Dallas, we hope this will help you find some new places to try out (or some new dishes!)
We eat here at least once a week (yes, we are that obsessed) and if you have seen our Instagram pages, you know how much we eat when we go here.
They have a HUGE buffet that is a veggie lover’s dream. They have tons of fresh salads, roasted vegetables, hummus, babaghanoush, soups, and other warm dishes- YUM!
They also have a ton of meat options (kabobs, roasted chicken, lamb, shwarma, etc.)
Our favorite thing to get is the “Cedar’s Special” which is the buffet + a meat dish. We almost always get the roasted chicken, which is SO good. We have also tried the chicken kabobs and salmon kabobs, which were also delicious!
Every time we bring someone new to this place, they fall in love with it, too!
We love this restaurant for Mexican food! Although we don’t usually eat the “typical” Mexican food like enchiladas, tacos, etc, We LOVE their fajitas and their salmon. They are extremely accommodating when it comes to food allergies like gluten and dairy, which is so helpful!
We started eating at this place at their first location in Austin when we lived there. They have a ton of burgers to choose from including turkey, ahi, salmon, bison, veggie, and tons more. We have tried a lot of them and they’re all incredible. They also have amazing shakes and fries!
We usually order the bison or classic burger, add a fried egg on top, and get it wrapped in lettuce. They also have really good gluten-free buns, if you have a gluten allergy!
Oh, and they have a delicious salad that has watermelon, arugula, and avocado! SO good!
This is also a Mexican/Latin restaurant. Again, although we don’t order the “typical” Mexican food, we LOVE their “Salmon de Coco” which is salmon with fresh vegetables and coconut rice. It is SO good! They also have really good Carne Asada.
This is another major favorite of ours! They see a ton of paleo-friendly options and have an awesome rooftop. We haven’t had a chance to try their cocktails, but we have heard they’re really good.
Our favorite thing to get there are the “create your own bowls” where you get to choose a protein/meat, two sides, and a sauce. We usually get steak with roasted brussel sprouts and parsnips, add an egg, and get guacamole on the side. Trust us, it is delicious! They also have a really good hummus appetizer and tons of other amazing dishes. You really can’t go wrong here!
Oh, and their desserts are SO good! They have several amazing ones, but our favorite is the flourless chocolate cake topped with coconut milk ice cream- aka heaven! They also have this chocolate kettle bell. Isn’t that so fun?!
We love all of these places because they are a build-your-own salad bar and they have TONS of options to add in. I think I choose almost every veggie they have, but thats what is so great about them- no measly salads here!
We don’t even need to go into detail here because we are pretty sure everyone knows about this one. Our favorite thing to get is the salad bowl with barbacoa, chicken, sautéed peppers and onions, corn salsa, and of course, guacamole and salsa! We don’t use the dressing that it comes with because with the salsa and guac, that is enough of a dressing for us!
This is another one we don’t really have to go into detail about. If you have ever been to a Whole Foods bar, you know why it is so amazing! Our favorite location to eat at is the Whole Foods off of Park Lane. This one is pretty big and has a ton of options to choose from. We try to stay away from here (except when our parents are visiting) because we cannot control how much we put in our brown boxes and end up spending $30 on a salad!
This place I found out about when I worked at Ernst & Young. We went there on a team lunch, and at first, I’ll be honest- when I found out we were going to a sushi buffet, I was a little grossed out, but when we got there, and I saw the options, I changed my mind. They had a ton of sushi rolls, sashimi, kabocha squash (my FAVE), seaweed salad, etc. They also have tempura and stuff like that. It is not the prettiest scenery, I will warn you 😉
This is one of those 24/7 places, but it is much better than IHOP in my opinion. They have a ton of options other than just breakfast foods, but my favorite thing to order there is the “Californiacation” which is an egg-white omelette with veggies and a side of fruit or potatoes. They also have AMAZING pancakes, but they don’t have any that are gluten-free or “healthier” if that is what you’re looking for!
This is another Mexican restaurant, but again, they have great fish and meat. Our favorite thing to get there is the fresh fish of the day or the Carne Asada which is served with sautéed tomatoes and onions. It come with rice and beans, but I usually will just ask for extra veggies instead.
This place is a great lunch or casual grab-and-go. They have a ton of salads, sandwiches, and that sort of thing, but our favorite thing to get is the half roasted chicken. You get to pick two sides so we usually get steamed green beans and broccoli. They also have a condiment bar with pickles, olives, jalapeños, pickled carrots, garlic, hot sauce, mustard, etc. I load up on these (sometimes a little too much to where I get heartburn ;)) Oh, and if you have a dairy allergy, they are super accommodating and can make it without butter.
We used to frequent this place in college a lot. It is a really cool place because its a build-your-own sandwich bar. You fill out what you want on paper bags and then they build your sandwich specific to what you ordered. I usually get the “lettucewhich” which is a sandwich wrapped in lettuce. I like to get the turkey and load up on all the veggies! They also have bowl, normal sandwiches (their bread is amazing!), shakes, and cookies. Their shakes and cookies are to die for, too! I haven’t had one since college, but trust me, they’re good!
Another cool thing about them is that you can have them scoop out the bread so that you really are just eating the outer part of the bread and cutting down on some of the carbs without sacrificing the bread. Pretty cool, right?
This restaurant is such a cool place! They have them in Arizona, California, and Denver, I believe! Almost everything on their menu is super healthy, which we love! They have great salads and appetizers like hummus with veggies and pita for dipping. Their entrees are also great! We love their baked spaghetti squash, the salmon dish, and their bison burger which comes with sweet potatoes and a kale salad. We have also heard that the curry is good and that their green drinks and cocktails are also super refreshing!
This place is ALWAYS packed, especially in the summertime! They have all sorts of popsicles and its actually right next to HG Sply Co on Greenville. They have a bunch of “fruity” popsicles like watermelon, but they also have other sweet ones like pumpkin, coffee, etc. Don’t miss out on these!
Whether you’ve had gelato or not, you need to try this place! It took us right back to being in Italy. We don’t have ice cream or gelato very often because of the dairy, but once in a while we will treat ourselves to some. We definitely sample more than a few flavors before making our final decision of what to order, but our favorite flavor is pistachio or something with chocolate in it, duh!
If you all have any other recommendations that we didn’t mention or you don’t think we have heard of, we are always open to finding out about new places!
