Happy Spring! We are so excited to share today’s look with you all because we have been trying to find the perfect kimono, especially for us mini-sized girls;) This lace duster/kimono is PERFECT for spring and summer, and it fits even more petite girls, like us! Usually kimonos can be wayyy too long or look like we are consumed in them, but this one is the perfect neutral, and fits so well!
What is so great about this kimono is that you can wear it over a swimsuit to the beach or pool as well!
All of these cute accessories are from Sole Society. They have THE cutest bags and shoes for spring all under $100. We still wear a lot of our pieces from them from years ago, and most of their bags and shoes are vegan!
Many of you probably haven’t been following us long enough to know that we did work a corporate job in public accounting. Well, obviously you wouldn’t know that because we weren’t even blogging at that point! Even though we don’t work corporate jobs anymore where we get ready to go to an office setting every day, we still love sharing business inspired looks with you all because we know most of you do actually have a job where looking office appropriate is important!
We are sharing this work look all from Nordstrom, where we used to shop for all of our work attire! When we are picking out outfits for work, or just any day, we look for pieces that are versatile, and can be worn for other occasions, other than just work. We are all about maximizing that buck, and what is in your closet.
Another way to maximize your buck (and your time) is by shopping online, and/or using in-store pickup with Nordstrom. We are overly obsessed with their customer service and that they offer free shipping and returns, so we are always ordering that size up (or down), so we know we can wear that pair of shoes ASAP, haha!
For this look, we paired this black asymmetrical skirt (could totally be worn out to date night or a girls’ night out with a cute top and heels) with this lace cami (another great piece you can wear with jeans or shorts!). On top, we put over this light linen cardigan that has pockets and is under $70! Also, love how you can dress this one down with some jeans or a cute spring dress.
Now that we have talked about this work look, we wanted to talk about why we think having a corporate job is important. As we mentioned before, we both worked corporate jobs in a big public accounting firm. It ended up being a great job and experience for us, but in the end, it wasn’t something we could see ourselves doing for years.
With that being said, we learned SO much about ourselves and just about life in general from that job.
We think it is so great that so many of millennials are starting their own businesses right out of college, or even in college. We totally get it and can appreciate having an entrepreneurial mindset, and while we think you can learn SO much from having your own business, you don’t experience other life experiences that you get from working for someone else or that you would in a larger company.
Things like working for difficult people, going to a job you don’t necessarily enjoy, working in and under conditions that you may not be able to control, etc. We are people that can push ourselves extremely hard to work diligently, even at home, but there are a lot of people that aren’t like that, and that is totally okay!
There were so many instances that we would have preferred more flexibility, or just would have wanted to do the tasks differently, but if you are working for someone else, you don’t necessarily get that say.
Since we did work in the corporate setting before owning our own businesses, we can appreciate all the positives and negatives of running the show. Both worlds have their upsides and downsides, but we know had we not worked that initial job, we wouldn’t have learned some valuable lessons and things about ourselves.
St. Patrick’s Day is this weekend, and we have been getting a lot of questions about outfit ideas, so while we were pulling outfit ideas, we wanted to share ways to style one of our favorite utility jackets. There are SO many ways you can wear it! We seriously wear this one all of the time, and through all seasons!
We just got back from a trip to Tulum (full trip details coming to the blog soon once we have some time to write it all down), but we know so many of you all are headed somewhere soon, so we wanted to put together some spring packing must haves! In case you missed our swimsuit cover up roundup, you can check those out here.
Of course, this is not all of them, but here are the necessities:
Neutral Wedges: you can wear these day and night and they are super comfy to walk in!
Metallic Slides: we just got these and are obsessed. They match everything and can be worn during the day at the beach/pool, or at night with some shorts or a cute dress.
Clear Jeweled Slides: these are such a fun pair to wear to the beach or pool, and the best part is you can totally wear them at night with a cute white dress.
Tortoise Cage Bag: This is a dupe for a popular bag you all may have seen, and this tortoise one is so fun!
Personalized Travel Tote: this is the tote we use ALL of the time. You can change the print, stripe color, and monogram, and they have new prints for spring!
Straw Hat: a hat is always a good idea, and this one isn’t just for the beach!
Mineral Sunscreen Brush: we use this to to touch up our sunscreen throughout the day, and it also soaks up oil!
We may be a little late to the game, but w are finally jumping on the waist bag trend! To be honest, when we initially saw waist bags making a comeback, we were a little skeptical because they remind of us the 90’s days when bike shorts and white sneakers were in, but we guess it all coming back these days!
We have been to quite a few music festivals: Austin City Limits, Bottlerock in Napa Valley, and a few other outdoor concert experiences. When you are walking around for 2-3 days in a row, you need a good bag that is practical, but stylish. We usually wear some sort of crossbody bag, just so it is accessible, and we can see it in front of us when we are walking around— nobody wants to get their bag stolen!
Crossbody bags are great, but we have to jump in here and tell you about how Alexis lost her card holder at Bottlerock two years ago. It was the last day of the festival, and we had gotten some food (per usual), and when it was time to go, we got back to our car, and made our way to Target on the way back to the hotel for some snacks (more food, haha).
When we got to the checkout, we realized my card holder was gone! Not a good way to end the trip! We went all the way back to the park where the festival was at and ran into the Lost & Found. Also, make not that we had a flight leaving a few hours from then and we had to still drive all the way back to San Francisco to get our luggage. Yeah, not good.
We checked at the Lost & Found and sorted through what must have been hundreds of driver’s licenses, only to not find Alexis’s. We ran back to the car and panicked because, again, we had a flight leaving, and needed the ID to board the plane! Luckily, we got to the airport and they let us both board since we were twins and on the same reservation— thanks goodness!
Moral of the story is, make sure you’re wearing a bag that closes up fully (mine wasn’t zipped all the way)! By the way, we never did find any of it, and nobody turned it in, so someone is walking around with a very cute card case, haha.
This waist bag from Finish Line is the perfect bag to wear to music festivals because it surprisingly fits a lot in it, and it looks trendy, too! Not mom or dad-ish! We love how the black looks great with any kind of look, and you can totally wear it for summer travels, too!
We know there are a ton of festivals coming up like Coachella, Bottlerock, and one in Dallas. Our favorite way to style this bag is with a pair of high waisted denim shorts with a boho knit sweater like this one.
This one is actually a swimsuit cover up that we paired a bralette underneath, but you could also do a swimsuit top. You could also do a cute boho dress or romper with the bag!
Coming back from a trip, and because we get asked about this a lot, we wanted to write about drinking and consuming alcohol. We are not alcoholics, or have anything against it, but we both just don’t personally drink alcohol a lot. We do enjoy an occasional glass wine, but are sweets lovers, so we will indulge in that! We talked more about alcohol and drinking in this podcast episode.
To be honest, we were never major drinkers. Of course, in college, we had our fun drinking and going out, but once we graduated, we realized we didn’t really enjoy it as much as we used to. We don’t personally enjoy having a hangover the next day, or not being able to be productive, so we choose to not consume it a lot. There are healthier drink choices you can make, which we can go into in a little bit!
We have found that as we became more into our health, we just committed to a lifestyle of putting the best things we can in our bodies, and we just don’t feel our best drinking often. Of course, like we said, a glass of wine, or a cocktail once in a while is great, but if you don’t feel your best drinking, don’t feel pressured to do it.
There are so many other ways to have fun, without drinking. Of course, if you love drinking and enjoy it, then do what works for you! Nothing wrong with that. We get asked a lot how we handle it when people bring it up, and truth is, if people respect you and have enough security with themselves, they won’t question your choices or decisions. From our experience, it is people who are insecure that have to share their opinions or make you feel like a weirdo for not taking part in what everyone else is doing!
Also, if you surround yourself with more people that have a similar lifestyle to you, it will help a lot!
If you are going to drink, here are some of the drinks we recommend are:
Vodka with sparkling water and citrus like lemon or orange, or even mint and cucumber
Glass of wine
Glass of champagne
Mixed drinks on menu, but skip sugar!
Now, about this denim on denim look! This whole outfit is from Abercrombie, and we are super excited to share these white jeans with you all. They are the white jeans you have been on the hunt for. They are stretchy, have a little rip, and the perfect rise. We got a size 25 in them, and they’re on sale for $44!
This is the perfect kind of outfit to wear for spring travels or a date night! We have been wearing these white jeans from Abercrombie with everything and love how they fit. We love that all of their jeans come in “short” and “tall” lengths, so it is perfect for petites, or taller girls!
We paired it with this white lace cami and a perfect denim jacket. If it is still chilly by you, which it seems to be all over right now, we wanted to share some cozy fleece pieces that are great for spring to throw on with some jeans and leggings!
