As many of y’all have probably seen on Instagram and our stories, we CHOPPED our hair off! We got SO much positive feedback from you all, and are so glad to hear that you all love it as much as we do! We received a ton of comments and DM’s about how much you all loved it, and how a lot of you all were actually considering cutting yours as well, which we totally L O V E !
In case you haven’t had a chance to listen to our latest podcast episode, An Extra Dose, we talked all about our hair in detail, including HOW we curl it. You can listen to that episode over here.We had soooo many requests to do a hair tutorial, and we promise, we will do on as soon as we can! In the meantime, we did a quick one in Alexis’ story highlights on Instagram, so be sure to check it out!
QUESTIONS FROM YOU ALL :
WHAT MADE YOU CUT YOUR HAIR?
We honestly never thought we would cut our hair this short. It is a MAJOR change. We both had tape-in extensions (more on that in this podcast episode), and with it being summer, it was getting reeeeeeal hot.Don’t get us wrong, we loved our longer hair, but it could become a pain when it was triple digits out, or we were at the pool or beach. Who wants to get their hair all wet when it is all nicely styled, or risk the chance of ruining this very expensive weave, as we like to call it 😉 We had been on a few trips in the last few months where we just didn’t want to get wet, or our hair just became way too much to deal with.
It takes a lot of time to dry the extensions, and it is just a lot of hair to style in general, so we were getting blowouts a lot, and avoiding washing it as much as possible (gross, we know!)
So, since we have a few trips coming up to the beach, and just with the weather so hot, we both decided we were ready for a change! Alexis had seen a hairstyle she liked on Pinterest, so she knew what she wanted! We were definitely scared to do it, but we absolutely LOVE it, and are so so happy with it! We may put them back in the fall, but we will see!
PS- our real hair is a little longer than shoulder-length, so we still cut off a good amount of hair!
WHAT CUT DID YOU ASK FOR?
We both went for a long bob, or sometimes called a “lob”. If you search on Pinterest, you will see a ton of images of this hairstyle! Our hairstylist loved the idea of us both going shorter, and said if we were up for it, to have one of us go a little shorter than the other, just to make it a little different! The back of our hair is just a little bit shorter than the front, and we have some chunky layers throughout!
WHAT COLOR DO YOU HAVE?
We both lightened our hair a little bit for summer, and we always love some lighter pieces around our face! She added in some lighter pieces, as well as retouched our balayage. We have brown hair with caramel and honey tones. We think it is always a good idea to go to your stylist with lots of photos of what you want, so they know exactly what you’re expecting! You can even show them ours!
We took all of our tape-in extensions out, but in order to get the look we wanted, or hairstylist suggested we adding 2-3 tape in pieces at the front for a thicker, heavier look in the front. You do not need to do this if you don’t want them, but we chose to take her advice!
CAN YOU WEAR YOUR HAIR UP?
Yes! We can wear ours in a low pony, or put it in a tiny top bun. The back is shorter, so it is harder to keep it high, but it still works! Plus, it will continue to grow!
If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out any time! XO
Weekend getaways are the perfect escape for a little mini vacation! We are all about a short, little trip somewhere, but the one thing we dread doing is… packing! So many people put it off because it seems super overwhelming, and if you’re like us, we struggle with what to pack, how much to pack, what is the appropriate number of sandals and/or heels, and the list goes on and on. We have done quite a bit of traveling in the past few years, so we have the short-trip packing down to a T!
THE BAG:
We ALWAYS go for a carry-on bag. There is NO need to check a bag for three-day trip, unless you’re going to need a ton of outfit choices. Don’t get us wrong, we like our options, but we also don’t like waiting forever for our bags in the baggage claim. The same thing goes with road trips: you can’t be overstuffing the car with your stuff, especially since you have to be considerate (or should be) of other people’s items as well!
We usually go for a small carry-on bag like this one that fits the size restrictions for airlines (be sure and check that before you get to the airport because some airlines are VERY strict about the sizes!). You can also opt for a duffel bag like this one, or a true weekender bag that still fits a good amount, but isn’t as structured. As far as a personal item, we also like to bring a tote bag like this one that fits our laptop and other necessary items. You can also use it throughout your trip as a beach or pool tote! If you go the backpack route, this one is a cute option that also holds a good amount. For packing, we love using these packing cubes to keep everything organized and in place! SMALL ITEMS:
If you are packing something other than your cell phone, we recommend a small tablet, unless you need your laptop. You can still answer emails and do necessary weekend stuff, but it doesn’t take up as much space, and gives you a good break from the workweek!
If you are going to the beach or pool, chances are you are going to need sunscreen and some other beauty products like that. If you can’t find the appropriate carry-on size bottles for sunscreen and other toiletries, we recommend just buying some there!REPURPOSING:
What we love to do is wear a dress or romper, or even some denim shorts and a cute top to dinner the night before, and then, the next day, it doubles a swimsuit cover up!
ORGANIZATION:
We also love bundling, and need to implement it more because it saves so much space! What you do is: place the tops of shirts and bottoms in the middle of your suitcase. Then, create a core out of a towel and then wrap your shirts and bottoms around it. It will also help with wrinkling!
Place the tops of shirts and pants into the middle of your suitcase. Create a core, out of a book or towel or whatever else you’re packing, and then wrap your shirts and pants around it. It save space and is a great way to avoid wrinkling. You can also roll your clothes to avoid wrinkles and works really well pants, skirts, and shirts. To roll, lay the item face down, fold back the sleeves, and then roll from bottom up.
For more delicate items, we have found that tissue paper can work well. To do this, lay down the item face down and place tissue paper on top. Fold it with the tissue paper inside, and use additional paper to fold so it is completely wrapped in paper. Now that you have your packing all set up, you probably need to book a hotel, duh! In case you haven’t heard or tried Hotel Tonight, they make booking a weekend getaway super convenient! You can get some amazing last-minute rates in their easy-to-use iPhone or Android app. When hotels have unsold rooms, they load them in their app, so you get some greatdeals! You can book some spontaneous trips all over the country, which can be so fun with some friends or your significant other!
Here is an ideal list of what you would typically need for a summer weekend trip:
As many of y’all know we are twins, and SUPER close. And, when we say we are close, we mean it. Literally, nothing could tear us apart. We work together, currently live together, and are pretty similar overall. That does not mean we don’t fight at all times of the day. If you think you fight a lot with your siblings, think again 😉 There is probably not a moment in the day when we are not arguing, but we wouldn’t change it for anything! We are teaming up today with LOFT to talk about Sister’s Day, and since we get asked SO many things about being a twin, and what it is really like to be a twin, we thought we would go into that a little more:) For those of you who don’t know, we are identical, and Samantha is older by 11 minutes. We were born two months early (our poor mom), and it was all Samantha’s fault! She wanted to come out, haha. It is pretty funny because we can’t live with each other, but we also can’t live without each other. One minute, we will be at each other’s throats, and the next, we act like nothing is going on, and we never argued. It seems absolutely crazy, but it is our reality! It is so funny because we will be arguing about anything (chores, work, household stuff, our dog, you name it), and we forget people are around, and they just think it is so entertaining and hilarious. We will be screaming (and sometimes get physical, oops!), and then a few minutes later, it is like nothing ever happened. There is just such an unexplainable bond. We literally trust each other with anything, and are so grateful every day that we have each other. We refer to each other as “hubby” because we literally fight like a married couple. We don’t know any different, but it is just so unique. In college, we majored in the same degree (Management Information Systems), and had a lot of the same classes. We were obviously a little competitive, but supported each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We always helped each other out, no matter what.We are so similar that we even struggle with the same health conditions. Everything with us is pretty similar down the line. We do have a few differences in personality, of course, but health-wise, it has been a blessing to have someone that knows what you’re going through, and can fully-relate, and not make you feel crazy at times ;)
We always have a best friend, and there is nothing else like that. No matter who else comes into our life, the relationship we have with each other is so strong and will always be that way. To answer common questions, we cannot feel each other’s pain, but we do feel sad or upset for the other if they are going through something difficult. We do finish each other’s sentences and repeat the same exact phrases at the same time, which is mortifying at times!
And, now about these ADORABLE outfits! We are only 5’1″, so finding dresses and jumpsuits that fit us well is so tough sometimes! We found both of these pieces at LOFT. They have a petite section, which we looooove, and they also have sizes xxs and 00, which are great! This printed jumpsuit is great for summer (wearing 00 petite) and you can wear it with flats, too! Such a great vacation piece! This white lace dress is super flattering and has a great neckline. The detailing on it is gorgeous. We are wearing an xxs petite in it for reference.
