So excited to share some transitional winter to spring looks from Forever21. All of these are SO affordable. You can pair them all so many ways, and that is why we love shopping at Forever21. They have tons of cute basics like cardigans, bodysuits, denim, and more.
We are going to be sharing 5 looks you can wear anywhere!
These sneakers are the perfect athleisure shoe. You can wear them with so many things, and we love the leopard print accents. We have size 8 in these (they run small).
Happy Tuesday! We are in beautiful Riviera Nayarait, and actually packed this exact look with us for our trip. This striped dress is perfect for spring and summer and so cute on with some sandals like these suede platform cutout ones from Sole Society. They come in a few other colors (we are wearing “Sandy Beach”). They are the perfect height for shorts, or shorter dresses!
We paired the dress and sandals with this adorable round woven bag! It actually stores a good amount, and it can be worn on your shoulder or cross-body! Perfect bag for spring and summer travels coming up.
Speaking of accessories, this pair of sunglasses come in two other colors (we have on the “ivory tortoise”)! They are only $30, so they are a steal!
We love getting our accessories for our spring travels and occasions at Sole Society because they are affordable, and also wear so well! A lot of their pieces are great neutrals, so you know you can get good use out of them!
Another important accessory for spring and summer is a bright, white smile! We get asked SO much what we use to keep our teeth so white, so we thought we would share our tips with you all.
First things first, you have to brush your teeth well, so you are starting with a good canvas. If your teeth are dirty to begin with you, you wont be able to achieve good results. We recommend using a good electric toothbrush that will time your actual brushing. If it wasn’t timed, we probably wouldn’t brush our teeth for as long as we should!
Another important thing is to use a good whitening toothpaste when brushing! We use this one, but any whitening toothpaste should be good!
Any time we are drinking hot teas, or anything besides water, really, we try and drink through a straw to prevent staining! We drink out of these glass straws.
When we do whiten our teeth, we use this whitening gel and put it in clear trays we had made at our dentist’s office!
Snacking on celery or strawberries after a meal helps to prevent staining! We love eating fruits, and those help a lot to brighten your smile, especially after stuff like wine or other staining foods!
We have heard that oil pulling can be effective at removing toxins and bacteria from your mouth, but we haven’t personally tried it!
We have also heard that brushing your teeth with baking soda can help a lot, too!
Happy Monday! Hope you all had a good weekend. We both slept in pretty late this weekend, which was much needed! One of us (Alexis) went on a short run yesterday and we made a late brunch of blueberry waffles with coconut cream. SO GOOD! We also got to spend some time with our family, and that is always nice.
On a different note, I (Alexis) wanted to write about a topic that a lot of you have requested, and one that I think is therapeutic to write about sometimes. I don’t like to get too personal on here, especially about relationships, just because some stuff has to be private, you know? I also think that it is something we all go through at some point, and it is comforting to know other people go through it, too.
In 2018, I went through two breakups, so the beginning of 2019 has been the year of focusing on myself and my self care and love. I am not going to sit here and tell you either breakup was easy to go through, because it isn’t, but I can tell you, as cliche as it sounds, I have learned more about myself with each breakup, and even more since I have been single.
Of course, everyone says dating and relationships are about learning about who you ultimately want to spend your life with, and with that comes figuring out who you are, what you want, characteristics you don’t want in a partner, parts of their lives you want to be supportive of (or not).
I truly believe that. It is about refining and refining, and figuring out who is the best match for YOU, and compliments you.
I can tell you I learned A TON from my relationships and breakups. I’ve had experiences with addictions, insecurities, some cases that bordered on verbal abuse, and so much more that I swore I would never put up with, but again, it happens, and we all go through it at some point or another. Have I sat there and cried for hours, felt sorry for myself, and just been down? 100 percent.
You have to go through those feelings and really deal with the breakup. Burying those feelings, or not addressing them will only make it worse.
When I was in each relationship, I was so wrapped up in it that I didn’t realize how much I felt like I had changed in the relationship, and that I had lost who I was. I do think you can evolve as a person, but you should’t lose who you are and your values. In some of them, I found myself constantly stressed and angry, and ready to snap at any point, which is not a way to live.
With some of my breakups, I had been drained emotionally and had so many rollercoasters of emotions throughout it, that once it ended, I was ready to move on quicker than others.
After my last relationship, I expected to feel ready to jump back into the dating scene (which is a whole other post in itself), but honestly, I wasn’t, and still am not.
I am truly taking this time to focus on ME, which I really haven’t done in a few years. As silly as it sounds, I didn’t want to end some of my other relationships because the thought of having to date again, and do this whole song and dance felt like torture. Don’t get me wrong, it is great to meet people, but it does get old after a while.
The other times I was ready to jump back in, I was just ready to date again. It had nothing to do with rebounding, or not being able to be alone. This time it just feels different.
It is comforting to know I have so many people in my corner, always supporting me, and also knowing and trusting it will all fall into place when it is right. I have my moments, thinking that it feels like everyone is in a relationship and happy, and feel like I am just getting older, and time is passing me by, but then I think about how much I have learned and grown, and know it is all supposed to be this way.
I also want to note that what you see on social media is not how it always appears. Of course, there are happy moments, but there is so much behind the scenes that we don’t all get to see. I think it is also important to realize YOU have to be ready to leave and move on. Trust me, you will know when it needs to happen. I got that intuition in ALL of my relationships, and I think that is probably the biggest factor in not regretting ending it (at least to me!)
Some of what has helped me (and what I am focusing on) is surrounding yourself with people that bring out the best in you, actually talking about it with friends or family, journaling what you love about yourself/what you don’t love, what you want in a future partner, things that you could improve on, etc. I also think this is a time to embrace doing stuff on your own time. Want to eat dinner at 5PM? Want to sleep in until 10 AM? Want to lay on the couch like a bum? Well, you can because all you have to focus on is yourself. And, yes, it feels amazing.
I am honestly just really content right now and not in any hurry to date someone, which I feel like is unlike me, but I really think this is all for a reason, and I am just feeling so grateful for my family and friends (some newer and some older), and for all of you! Like I said, I have my moments, but overall, I am so thankful.
On a side note, for those of you just here for the outfit details, which I can’t hate on, I LOVE these mules from Sole Society. We have them in blush suede and leopard and they are so comfy! We love them with this blush shrug cocoon sweater and this white tote (great for traveling or every day).
This hat (also from Sole Society) is a great spring hat when you don’t want to look too beach-y!
Happy Thursday! We are definitely creatures of routine and habit, and with that comes morning routines. We will be honest, in the morning we have way more a routine than in the evening. Although we typically do the same things in the evenings every night, we aren’t as much on a routine. In the last few months, you have noticed that we have changed up our workouts a little bit and have also been incorporating more meditation into our days as well.
Before we get into our updated morning routine, we wanted to quickly talk about this spring outfit!
One of our favorite prints as of late is leopard. Well, actually it has always been a favorite! Back in the day, circa 2000, we had this cute pair of leopard sandals that we were every day! The brand was MIA, so you all may remember those chunky sandals. They were a great shoe because they matched everything!
That is why we love this leopard wrap. It goes with blacks and browns, and pops of color!
You can also wear it over a swimsuit or with some denim shorts! We paired it with some black jeans and a basic silk cami!
This makes a great casual brunch look or a travel look for upcoming spring travels!
And, now for our updated morning routine! We really think life is all about refining and adjusting. Our routine has looked different over the years, and that is what it should be. Some days we get up earlier than others, but we always do pretty much the same thing, which helps us to stay on schedule and still regimented and focusing on our best selfs!
As soon as we get up, we do our daily 10-minute meditation using the Calm app. We love it because it is a guided meditation and has a really good, inspirational quote at the end that starts our day off on a positive note! More on meditation in this post.
After we do our meditation, we both make our beds (yes, it is VERY important to do in our opinions!) and then head downstairs!
We always joke that we are like a married couple because we share duties! One of us will take Lucy out to the bathroom, and the other one will start getting our lemon water ready and our supplements together, as well as juice the celery.
After we do all of that, we will either get in a workout at home using the rebounder or do a P.volve workout, or we will go to pilates at Session Pilates!
If we do a workout at home, we will eat our usual breakfast either before or after our workout and then get to emails and work, or if we go to Pilates, we will eat something right before and then get to work right when we get home from class!
We have been trying to be better about getting on our email or Instagram right when we wake up. We try to not check until after we have meditated, but it is tough!
Anyone else ready for spring?! We sure are! This spring inspired look is perfect as we transition into the more spring months, and if you live somewhere cooler, you can totally wear this outfit with some jeans! This blush scarf from Sole Society is super soft, and we wore it two ways so you all could see that you can wear it as a wrap/shawl, or as your typical scarf.
Now, I am about to get reeeeal personal (Alexis here). I went through a breakup in the last few months that was not expected, or how I thought this point in my life would go, but as I have experienced many other times, you can’t plan out your life, and just have to roll with it. Life is full of ups and downs, and this is a time for me to grow and learn about myself, which I am more than okay with. If you are going through something similar, I hope that this post will help guide you in some way.
Through learning about myself through this past relationship, and my previous one, I realized a lot of life really happens for a reason. As cliche as it sounds, it couldn’t be more true. I am using this time to do stuff for myself: yoga, work (which I do toooooo much of!), spend time with my family, workout, and be social. I know that sounds obvious, of course be social, but for me, I can be a homebody, and since I have my sister around a lot, I don’t feel the need to be super social and put myself out there as much.
My sister and her boyfriend are so sweet and always make me feel so welcome to crash their party any day, but it is important to have my own things going on. Instead of jumping in the dating world again, I am really taking this time to do stuff when I want to do stuff: sleep in, workout whenever I want to, eat dinner at 4PM or at 10PM, haha, etc.
I think in other relationships, it wasn’t that I wasn’t okay with being alone, but I was ready to move on and date again. This time, I am just not, which is a weird feeling for me. I keep saying tomorrow I may change my mind, but for now, I have really been focusing on making new friends, and continuing my existing friendships.
I told myself that I really needed to put myself out there. So, what did I do? Got on BumbleBFF. Yup, sure did! I had been on there before (but the dating side), and figured why not?! My job is on my phone, so it just makes sense for me, haha. I had met so many of my current friends through social media, and this is just another avenue to make newer friends.
At first, I felt kind of awkward. I wouldn’t say embarrassed, just felt weird swiping through a bunch of girls, but after I went on a few “dates”, I realized there were some really sweet and genuine girls out there!
There have been times I have not felt like going out, and would much rather be at home in my pajamas, but I make myself go, and almost always I have a great time! I end up being able to have good girl talk, vent, and just have fun because that is what it is all about!
I hope this was helpful to you all, and if you have been through something similar or are on the fence about Bumble BFF, you should try it out! Let me know your experiences, would love to hear them!
We hope you all had a great week. We had the MOST incredible time at El Dorado Royale (full review coming soon)! We had so many of y’all message us saying you have stayed at this hotel before, have honeymooned there, or just want to come after seeing our pictures and stories, so we LOVE that!
Before we get into that topic, we want to share this spring floral look that is perfect for Mother’s Day coming up, or graduation! We paired it with some of our current favorite accessories from Sole Society that are neutrals, so they go with everything! This clutch has been on major repeat these past few weeks and it comes in a few other colors, like yellow, which is so fun for spring and summer. These neutral wedges are surprisingly comfortable, and can be worn with shorts, dresses, rompers, or jeans. We love all of Sole Society’s pieces because of their price point and how versatile their pieces are! Today, we are going to be talking about a more personal topic that we haven’t really talked about before: dealing with negative comments. It is a sensitive topic, and we don’t want to give that much attention to it because as you all know, it just is giving those negative people more attention, but we did want to share our tips on how we deal with it in hopes that it will help you all, too! This floral dress is great spring dress because it is affordable, and fits SO well! We are wearing xxs petite, for reference! Now, about the main topic! We have all heard at one time or another that you can’t please everyone. Of course, we know that, but it is still a hard pill to swallow. At the end of the day, you just have to be yourself, and stay in your own lane, as tough as that can be. Honestly, when we both share stuff on Instagram and our blog, we aren’t thinking X amount of people are going to read this or make a judgment, etc. We are just sharing what we love, and 99% of the time, we get such sweet messages from you all, and such great feedback, which really makes our day! There is always going to be negativity out there, even if it is overall positive, and we totally get that. It can be hard to let go of the negative comments, no matter what they are. The thing is, when you put yourself out there, especially on social media, you are going to have people making judgements about you, your life, and your family, and most of it isn’t even true.
We may not have the highest “likes” on our photos, or may not appeal to every person reading or seeing our instagram feeds or blog, and that is okay because we truly LOVE what we do, and love the people that truly support us and raise us up. It is sad that there are people out there that will go out of their way to write something negative about you, and actually feel “ok” doing so. We were always taught that if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything, and we think that definitely applies here.Of course, we all can be “judgy” at different times, whether it is out of jealousy, anger, frustration, etc, but when you go out of your way to write something public about someone, that is a whole other level, especially when you’re making assumptions that are totally false. The point of this post is not to get attention, or to get people to feel sorry, but we just wanted to say that even if it is behind a screen, people still have feelings, and we know we aren’t the only people that have felt this way before.
We wanted to share some of our tips with you all on how we deal with negativity:
-Talk to friends or family about what you’re feeling, don’t just hide it and bury it
-As hard as it may be, addressing the negativity most of the time doesn’t resolve it, and just makes you feel better temporarily, so it is best to just drop it and move on
-Understand that the people creating the negativity are unhappy and in a bad place
-Remove yourself from the negativity, if possibleOn a more positive note, we wanted to thank ALL of you for your support and sweet messages. You really don’t know how much it makes our day to talk with you all. You all are the reason we love what we do, and we are so grateful!
