What’s Wrong With Some Non-Stick Cookware?

Up until a few years ago, we had no idea that our cookware, and all of the items we were cooking our organic, healthy foods in, were actually toxic.

A lot of the typical nonstick cookware could be made out of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These can release perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which is a carcinogenic chemical when heated. The main reason we stopped using them was that they can contain dangerous heavy metals that can flake off into your food during cooking.

You all may remember we went through a lot of health issues a few years back, and we were told we had heavy metals in our bodies, so this is when we made the switch!

What Should You Look For?

We suggest looking at materials that are:

  • ceramic
  • porcelain enamel
  • tempered glass
  • steel
  • We

We have read it is best to avoid aluminum and Teflon (if it was made before 2013).

What Are Our Favorite Brands?

There are several we actually own and use daily, and some that we researched. Be ready to invest a little in these, but, it will be worth it!

Scanpan: this is actually the brand that we have and use, and LOVE it. These really last forever. They are free of all of the toxins we mentioned before, and you can even put them in the dishwasher, but we hand wash ours.

You an also put them in the oven!

Xtrema: this brand is ceramic, so it is free of all of the toxins, and you can also put these in the dishwasher.

GreenPan: this is another great brand, and we found a huge set of pans on pots (13 pieces) on sale, so it is a great bundle deal.
