Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend! In case you all missed our first Friday FAQ, you can check that out here. We know the holidays are over, but a lot of us are taking weekend trips or short trips in the next few months, so we wanted to share what we typically pack in our carry-on/weekender bag.
First off, having a good carry-on suitcase or weekender bag is a must! We love this weekender bag and this carry on the most, but see below for more options! The one we are wearing is vegan and has a crossbody strap. It is also super roomy!
For starters, we almost always travel in some kind of athleisure look, like this one! It is comfy, but looks put-togther- aka a win-win! These Adidas Ultra Boost sneakers are probably our most worn pair. They are literally the comfiest shoes and so light! We paired them with our go-to faux leather leggings, which are a staple in our closet, and we love them with a denim button down shirt.
In case you all haven’t tried out these New Balance Sneakers, you all MUST! We had taken soooo long to finally get these, and now we wear them on major R-E-P-E-A-T! They are so comfortable and you can wear them to workout, or you can wear them with more of an athleisure look (perfect for traveling for the holidays!) What is even better about these sneakers is that we found them on eBay for less than other retailers!
If you’re a little skeptical about buying stuff off of eBay, we were, too, BUT ever since we started buying some harder to find pieces, or designer pieces we had been on the hunt for, we have been hooked ever since! 80% of their pieces on there are actually brand new, and not used. They also have free 2-day shipping on most orders, which is a game changer, especially for the holidays coming up! And, since we are on the topic of gifting, we wanted to share our favorite sneakers and athleisure items that make the perfect gifts for all of your loved one:
Comfy, neutral sneaker that can be worn with leggings
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and we CANNOT wait! It is one of our favorite holidays, mainly because of the food, but also it is a time when family and friends are all together, which we love! That also means all of us will be traveling a lot, whether it is by car or plane, and you’re going to need something comfy (and cute) to travel in! We wanted to share some ideas and tips with y’all, so today, we are teaming up with Nordstrom to give you all some easy outfits! In case you missed our Thanksgiving outfit ideas, you can check those out here. When we are looking for something comfy and cute to travel in, we always go for some kind of legging because they feel like the closest thing to pajamas, and they are stretchy! This pair of moto leggings from Nordstrom is a great option because they aren’t just a flat, boring legging, and the grey goes with everything. They also come in an olive color, which we have, too! We got a size xxs in these (they run a little large!)
You could also opt for a jogger type of pant that will also be comfortable, but stylish like the pairs here.To pair with the leggings, we like a breathable, looser top like this ribbed cardigan/tee. It is SOOOO soft and warm, and you could always layer a hoodie or sweatshirt like these on top if you get cold. As for shoes, we usually opt for some ankle booties like this pair that are comfortable and keep your feet warm. They are easy to get on and off through security, etc, too. We always wear this pair of socks with them! You could also do a slip on sneaker like some of these.
We just got back from the MOST amazing trip to Seaside, Florida with our parents and boyfriends. This was our second time in this area of Florida (we came in May for the first time and fell in love!). Something about it is so calming and relaxing to us. We were able to really decompress and take some much-needed time off from work. We had SO many of y’all share some great recommendations, and a lot of you who wanted us to share what we did while we were there!
We stayed in a house that we rented near Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, which was GORGEOUS. We seriously wanted to move in, haha. It was great because we could grocery shop to have some stuff to snack on throughout the day! We were not staying on the beach, but we were very close, so it was super convenient!
It was raining the day we got there, and our first full day, so we made the best of it by eating (of course), working out, and relaxing in the house!
The other days, we spent the day at the beach, eating lots of yummy food, and taking in all of the sunshine!
If you’re looking for more activities, we found some ideas here.
We didn’t get to explore too much, just because we were mostly at the beach, but we loved all the restaurants we went to, so we wanted to share those with you all!
RESTAURANTS:
Amavida Coffee Roasters: have amazing iced coffee and pastries!
Barefoot BBQ: their roasted chicken is amazing + so many other yummy things!
Bud + Alley’s: really good variety of food! We got the whole fish and it was amazing!
Cafe Thirty-A: this is a super popular spot and we loved all the food here! We got salmon, and our boys got the filet and said it was amazing!
Crackings: great breakfast spot! The cinnamon donuts are a must!
Edward’s Fine Food and Wine: we ate here our second night and it was super cute! They have a courtyard that is beautiful and they have live music!
The Great Southern Cafe: we went here for lunch two days in a row and it was SO good! Love their salads and crab parfait!
Modica Market: has everything you can think of! We got some drinks and snacks there for the beach!
Raw + Juicy: super cute juice food truck that has smoothies, juices, and food. We love their juices and kale salad!
Restaurants Paradise: this was such a cute spot! We ate outside and had an amazing meal. The boys got filets and couldn’t stop talking about them. The parfaits for dessert are incredible!
Five Daughter’s Bakery: we didn’t have any on this trip, but we did last time. Their donuts are paleo and vegan and AMAZING!
Surfing Deer: we ate here our last night and it was AMAZING! Loved everything we ordered from the hummus, to the salads, to the entrees! Oh, and the desserts!
Weekend getaways are the perfect escape for a little mini vacation! We are all about a short, little trip somewhere, but the one thing we dread doing is… packing! So many people put it off because it seems super overwhelming, and if you’re like us, we struggle with what to pack, how much to pack, what is the appropriate number of sandals and/or heels, and the list goes on and on. We have done quite a bit of traveling in the past few years, so we have the short-trip packing down to a T!
THE BAG:
We ALWAYS go for a carry-on bag. There is NO need to check a bag for three-day trip, unless you’re going to need a ton of outfit choices. Don’t get us wrong, we like our options, but we also don’t like waiting forever for our bags in the baggage claim. The same thing goes with road trips: you can’t be overstuffing the car with your stuff, especially since you have to be considerate (or should be) of other people’s items as well!
We usually go for a small carry-on bag like this one that fits the size restrictions for airlines (be sure and check that before you get to the airport because some airlines are VERY strict about the sizes!). You can also opt for a duffel bag like this one, or a true weekender bag that still fits a good amount, but isn’t as structured. As far as a personal item, we also like to bring a tote bag like this one that fits our laptop and other necessary items. You can also use it throughout your trip as a beach or pool tote! If you go the backpack route, this one is a cute option that also holds a good amount. For packing, we love using these packing cubes to keep everything organized and in place! SMALL ITEMS:
If you are packing something other than your cell phone, we recommend a small tablet, unless you need your laptop. You can still answer emails and do necessary weekend stuff, but it doesn’t take up as much space, and gives you a good break from the workweek!
If you are going to the beach or pool, chances are you are going to need sunscreen and some other beauty products like that. If you can’t find the appropriate carry-on size bottles for sunscreen and other toiletries, we recommend just buying some there!REPURPOSING:
What we love to do is wear a dress or romper, or even some denim shorts and a cute top to dinner the night before, and then, the next day, it doubles a swimsuit cover up!
ORGANIZATION:
We also love bundling, and need to implement it more because it saves so much space! What you do is: place the tops of shirts and bottoms in the middle of your suitcase. Then, create a core out of a towel and then wrap your shirts and bottoms around it. It will also help with wrinkling!
Place the tops of shirts and pants into the middle of your suitcase. Create a core, out of a book or towel or whatever else you’re packing, and then wrap your shirts and pants around it. It save space and is a great way to avoid wrinkling. You can also roll your clothes to avoid wrinkles and works really well pants, skirts, and shirts. To roll, lay the item face down, fold back the sleeves, and then roll from bottom up.
For more delicate items, we have found that tissue paper can work well. To do this, lay down the item face down and place tissue paper on top. Fold it with the tissue paper inside, and use additional paper to fold so it is completely wrapped in paper. Now that you have your packing all set up, you probably need to book a hotel, duh! In case you haven’t heard or tried Hotel Tonight, they make booking a weekend getaway super convenient! You can get some amazing last-minute rates in their easy-to-use iPhone or Android app. When hotels have unsold rooms, they load them in their app, so you get some greatdeals! You can book some spontaneous trips all over the country, which can be so fun with some friends or your significant other!
