A little about this episode:
On this episode of An Extra Dose Podcast, we are talking about our staycation at the Ritz Carlton in Dallas. We are sharing their “Commitment to Clean”, our experience at their famous restaurant, Fearings, our amazing spa and massage session, and time at their relaxing pool. We are also giving tips to have your own staycation at home. Our favorites include our must have travel organizers.
Their Commitment to Clean is a great initiative that the Ritz Carlton and Marriott hotels have in place. It involves treating surfaces with hospital-grade disinfectants, partitions at the front desks and counters, hand sanitizing stations, contactless services like mobile check-in, and more. We felt completely safe while there, and you will, too!

Had a glass of wine on their beautiful patio before having dinner at Fearings.
Had the most amazing dinner at Fearings and had the “Flowerchild” cocktail- highly recommend! We even had the opportunity to meet Chef Fearing, and we were gifted a copy of his incredible cookbook. Can’t wait to try the recipes in it.
This vegetarian menu option was absolutely incredible! It was a cauliflower curry with basmati rice and asparagus on the side.
Relaxing right before our amazing massage at the spa. We both received a deep tissue massage that was incredible, and left us so zen.
Spent some time soaking in all the rays at their pool, and snacked on some yummy food, of course! We had a spread of fresh salads, veggie wraps, and guacamole and salsa.
Before I get into what it is like living in Dallas, I wanted to quickly share about this colorblock sweater that I am OBSESSED with from Walmart! It comes in lots of color options, is super soft, and can be worn with leggings, so win-win! And, it is only $11. I have on size S for reference. They have tons of affordable pieces you can mix and match with.
I have had a few requests to share what I love about Dallas, since I have lived here for 6 years. Of course, like any city, there are pros and cons, but overall, I do love Dallas, and if you’re considering moving here, I hope this is helpful:
If you are like us, you love attending sporting events. We have the Dallas Cowboys (football) , Dallas Stars (Hockey) , and the Texas Rangers (Baseball). There is also SMU (college) and UT Austin in Austin, only three hours away.
Central location to travel from
One of my favorite things about Dallas is that we are so central to any location. Whether you’re flying to the west coast, east coast, or overseas, you can fly direct usually!
Young professionals
There is such a mix of age groups here, but what I love is that there are so many young professionals, around our age you can meet. We live near SMU and Knox/Henderson, which is a great area for 20’s and 30’s.
Some other areas to consider are:
Oak Lawn
Deep Ellum
Uptown
M Streets
Park Cities
Knox/Henderson
Plano
Richardson
Southlake
Frisco
Great food options
There are SO many good restaurants here, whether you want bbq, steak, healthier food, or desserts. We have it all!
Happy New Year! We are going to be starting to share a lot more health and wellness posts on here since so many of you all had been requesting that! So, let’s kick off our first Wellness Wednesday for 2019!!
As you all know we live in Dallas and we have more recently been eating plant based the last few months. If you all want to read more about that, you can read more here and here. We get asked all of the time what our favorite spots in our city are for those of you who are visiting for the weekend, or just looked for some new spots to try! We are avid users of yelp, and absolutely LOVE finding new places at home, or in new cities we are visiting, so we are super excited to share some of our favorites with you all!
So quick story on these pictures: we took these at one of our favorite juice bars #1: Juiceland: this spot is actually in Austin, too! They have the best smoothies and juices, and they even have some great salads and wraps!#2: Lala’s Mexican Cuisine: as so many good, healthy Mexican options, and you can even get your tacos wrapped in lettuce OR your enchilada wrapped in zucchini! All of their food is organic and non-GMO. Gather Kitchen is a great breakfast, lunch, or dinner spot. You can create your own bowl, too. True Food Kitchen is a lot of people’s favorites and SO many healthy options!
It also happens to be walking distance to two of our other favorite spots: Gather Kitchen and True Food Kitchen.#5: FlowerChild: has a ton of vegan and vegetarian options! You can also create your own bowl, and they have sustainable protein options like chicken and salmon, too.
#6: Tribal All Day Cafe: you all may know of their juices, but they also have a food menu in Dallas. They have things like tacos and migas, smoothies, bowls, and wraps. Everything is so fresh!
#7: Snappy Salads: our go-to salad spot! We like to get the large size and fill it up with all the veggies!#8: Kozy Kitchen: LOVE this spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Their portions are huge and they have an amazing roasted vegetable plate, amongst other great dishes. The breakfast there is also killer.
#9: Origin Kitchen And Bar: This place has a ton of paleo and vegetarian options! We love their salads, and they have a ton of great bowls and healthier options!#10: Mudhen Meat and Greens: Another great spot in the Dallas Farmer’s Market. They have a board in the restaurant with all their fresh, in-season vegetables and label them if they are vegan. We also love their spring roll appetizers!
#11: Reverie Bakeshop: if you love dessert, you all HAVE to try this one! They have all plant-based and vegan treats. SO good! And some on our list to try (we have heard all great things!):
#1:V Eats Modern Vegan: Sam’s boyfriend said this spot was actually pretty good and he isn’t vegan!
#2: Be Raw: this spot has all raw foods and looks delicious!
#3: Cosmic Cafe: the food looks really good here, and the stir fries sound delicious!#4: Sundown At Granada: this is actually very close to where we live, so we have to pop in sometime!
#5: Spiral Diner: they have a lot of options that are usual favorites, but made vegan.
#6: Goji Cafe: this place is a vegan restaurant with Asian and Chinese cuisine! All of the food looks amazing.
#7: Recipe Oak Cliff: they have a ton of fresh juices, salads, and even zoodles! What is so great about most of these places is that a lot of them are walkable to each other! Of course, if you’re going to be doing some walking, you need some comfy shoes.
These blush ballet flats are SOOO comfy– perfect for walking and grabbing a bite! We know when we worked our corporate jobs, or even a lot of days now, we want to get some fresh air and grab a bite somewhere where we can walk to. Not only are these ballet flats comfortable, they are great for work, too, and they come in several colors like black, gold, and silver.
So, we know you’re probably wondering… another pair of ballet flats. They all look the same! Welllll, this pair is different for several reasons, and we know you will love them as much we do!
This blush pair feels like you’re totally wearing sneakers (in a good way), but look like a sleek pair of ballet flats. They’re super bouncy and cushion-y, and so light! We love this blush color as a great neutral, but we also have our eyes on the metallic gold or silver.
As you all know we live in Dallas! Since the weather has been so nice recently, and we are finally experiencing fall weather here aka 60’s and 70’s, which has been gorgeous! We have been taking full advantage of it and walking outside wherever we can. We are super excited to team up with FitFlop to share some of our favorite spots with you all as part of their In My City campaign. One of our favorite things to do is grab a good juice or smoothie and enjoy it outside and walk around! In case you all missed it, we have been eating plant based the last few months. If you all want to read more about that, you can read more here and here. Our favorite spot to grab a smoothie or juice is Juiceland. They have these in Austin, too, and they have the best smoothies and juices, and they even have some great salads and wraps that are great for a quick bite!If we are not grabbing a juice or bite to eat, we love getting a coffee or tea at the Starbucks on Knox Street. It is a great spot to catch up with our friends, since it is centrally located and close to a lot of our favorite spots. We get our hair done down the street, so we love popping in there before a hair appointment. It is also a great area to grab coffee before brunch, if there is a wait at one of our favorite spots. There are so many amazing brunch places– all walking distance from Starbucks, so it is perfect!Of course, we couldn’t leave out our go-to walking spot: The Katy Trail. It is the best of both worlds because you can walk to and from so many good spots like brunch, drinks, etc, and it is great for getting in a good run!
We love to go on a weekend run with our dog, Lucy, or go on a nice walk with our friends or boyfriends! It is so peaceful, and has plenty of shade, too!
So, of course, when we are actually working out on the trail, we are wearing sneakers, BUT, if we are actually dressed up a little more, we need a shoe that looks put together, but is comfortable enough to walk around in a lot.

They test ALL of their shoes and soles for comfort in a lab in Calgary. How cool is that?!
We had so much fun going to a Dallas Stars game last week, and wanted to share all about it with you all, and the experience app, PAIRR, that we used!
What is PAIRR:
PAIRR is an experience exchange and the first live experience platform that connects members, like you with exclusive, invitation-only live events in your area with top brands, influencers, and artists.
Listen more about the app in our latest episode of our podcast here!
How Does It Work?
Consumers, like you, would sign-up HERE, and then you would select your “experience elements”, which is where you would choose things you like to do! After that, brands use the PAIRR app to plan events for you based off those experience elements, and then eventually invite you to the events through the platform. So, basically, the events are customized to fit your preferences, and visa-versa!
Is It Free?
Yes, it is totally free!
How Does PAIRR Benefit You?
The events are geared specifically to your selected “experience elements”, aka what YOU enjoy! On the brand side, the people at the events with you are people that are like-minded and actually enjoy similar things as well.
How Do We Sign Up?
Click THIS link to sign up and then follow the steps to select your “experience elements”.
Since we love sports so much, we had the opportunity to attend a Dallas Stars game vs the San Jose Sharks.
For this experience, we received two VIP tickets to the game, which included access to the Zam Tunnel.
We got to actually go out on the ice before the game for the full pregame experience! We got to take tons of pictures on the ice, and then watch them warm up.
We had been to other games before, but had never been so close, and right in the middle of the action!
Following the warm ups and pregame activities, we went to our seats, which were in the SECOND row. We could see everything, and were sitting right by the photographers for the game, which was super cool!
The Stars won, which made the game even more fun!
We hope you all try it out! Please reach out with any questions you have! Xo
