As many of y’all have probably seen on Instagram and our stories, we CHOPPED our hair off! We got SO much positive feedback from you all, and are so glad to hear that you all love it as much as we do! We received a ton of comments and DM’s about how much you all loved it, and how a lot of you all were actually considering cutting yours as well, which we totally L O V E !
In case you haven’t had a chance to listen to our latest podcast episode, An Extra Dose, we talked all about our hair in detail, including HOW we curl it. You can listen to that episode over here.We had soooo many requests to do a hair tutorial, and we promise, we will do on as soon as we can! In the meantime, we did a quick one in Alexis’ story highlights on Instagram, so be sure to check it out!
QUESTIONS FROM YOU ALL :
WHAT MADE YOU CUT YOUR HAIR?
We honestly never thought we would cut our hair this short. It is a MAJOR change. We both had tape-in extensions (more on that in this podcast episode), and with it being summer, it was getting reeeeeeal hot.Don’t get us wrong, we loved our longer hair, but it could become a pain when it was triple digits out, or we were at the pool or beach. Who wants to get their hair all wet when it is all nicely styled, or risk the chance of ruining this very expensive weave, as we like to call it 😉 We had been on a few trips in the last few months where we just didn’t want to get wet, or our hair just became way too much to deal with.
It takes a lot of time to dry the extensions, and it is just a lot of hair to style in general, so we were getting blowouts a lot, and avoiding washing it as much as possible (gross, we know!)
So, since we have a few trips coming up to the beach, and just with the weather so hot, we both decided we were ready for a change! Alexis had seen a hairstyle she liked on Pinterest, so she knew what she wanted! We were definitely scared to do it, but we absolutely LOVE it, and are so so happy with it! We may put them back in the fall, but we will see!
PS- our real hair is a little longer than shoulder-length, so we still cut off a good amount of hair!
WHAT CUT DID YOU ASK FOR?
We both went for a long bob, or sometimes called a “lob”. If you search on Pinterest, you will see a ton of images of this hairstyle! Our hairstylist loved the idea of us both going shorter, and said if we were up for it, to have one of us go a little shorter than the other, just to make it a little different! The back of our hair is just a little bit shorter than the front, and we have some chunky layers throughout!
WHAT COLOR DO YOU HAVE?
We both lightened our hair a little bit for summer, and we always love some lighter pieces around our face! She added in some lighter pieces, as well as retouched our balayage. We have brown hair with caramel and honey tones. We think it is always a good idea to go to your stylist with lots of photos of what you want, so they know exactly what you’re expecting! You can even show them ours!
We took all of our tape-in extensions out, but in order to get the look we wanted, or hairstylist suggested we adding 2-3 tape in pieces at the front for a thicker, heavier look in the front. You do not need to do this if you don’t want them, but we chose to take her advice!
CAN YOU WEAR YOUR HAIR UP?
Yes! We can wear ours in a low pony, or put it in a tiny top bun. The back is shorter, so it is harder to keep it high, but it still works! Plus, it will continue to grow!
If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out any time! XO
Happy Friday! TGIF! Hope you all had a great week. We have a super jam-packed weekend with the rewardStyle Conference in Dallas this weekend, plus we are going on a fun trip on Sunday that we can’t wait to share with y’all! We had a few requests to share some closet organization tips, so we are going to be covering some of our favorites + this super easy, dressed up denim short look– perfect for spring and summer! Before we get into our tips, we want to talk about these ADORABLE yellow shoes! They are the perfect pop of color for any outfit and they are low enough to wear with shorts or rompers! We paired them with this super cute hat (great for the beach!) and this black crossbody bag goes with everything and also comes in a ligher tan color. As far as closet organization tips, here are ours:
We originally posted this a year or two ago, but we have gotten so many requests for a post like this, so we wanted to update it for y’all!
We know when we first started eating healthier and trying to make better choices, it felt a little overwhelming when it came to eating out. We knew what to stick to at home, but when it came time to eat out, we had no idea how it was prepared, what to even order, or if the portion was too big. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming or give you anxiety. We think once you have the tools and practice it, it becomes second nature to you!
Eating is basically what we think about 24/7, and that is not a joke! It is kind of ridiculous. Even when we are eating one meal, We are already thinking about our next meal, haha. Another thing to note is, you are NOT being obnoxious or rude by asking how it is prepared. We will admit, we used to be pretty self-conscious about asking questions about how a dish is made, but it is so worth it!
To start, we thought it would be helpful to go over a few tips that anyone can follow!QUICK TIPS:
LOOK AT THE MENU AHEAD OF TIME:
We almost always (actually, no, we ALWAYS) look at the menu before we go somewhere. Especially if we are not the one who is picking the restaurant, we want to have a game-plan of what we can order or adjust to fit what I want or am craving. A lot of people are concerned and think that we need to pick the place we eat at, but really, we can find something anywhere. It may not be exactly what we wanted, but we can always make it work!
ORDER BASIC:
If you don’t see anything on the menu you can adjust, they can almost always bring a plain chicken breast or piece of fish with steamed veggies. We know it is nothing exciting, but it will work!
HAVE A LIGHT SNACK AHEAD OF TIME:
Another thing we try to do is trying to eat something small, like a snack, to hold us over. If we got to a restaurant absolutely starving, we are going to want to eat every.single.thing on that menu, and no, they will not be the healthier options;)
PICK A HEALTHY APPETIZER:
A lot of the times, there will sometimes be appetizers that can be pretty healthy like some hummus or guacamole with whole wheat pita or veggies for dipping (we almost always ask for veggies if we order hummus or something like that)! Sometimes they will also have a chicken skewer or something like that!
START WITH A SALAD:
We always recommend starting with a small salad (dressing on the side). DO NOT dump that entire creamy dressing on top of the salad. You are ruining what could be a healthier option.
If you can, we would suggest ordering oil and vinegar, instead of the creamy dressing the salad probably is served with. If you don’t like oil and vinegar, order the dressing it comes with on the side and dip your fork in the dressing and wipe it on the salad, so that you can put as much as you want without dumping it all over the salad.
 STICK TO GREENS/VEGGIES:
We  also suggest ordering green or some sort of veggies with your meal. I usually will swap out the grains or starchy carbs for a veggie instead!
GO WITH OLIVE OIL:
Most of the time, unfortunately, the restaurant doesn’t list out every single thing in the dish on the menu. Most dishes are made with way too much butter, salt, sugar, etc. All you really need is a little olive oil, salt, and pepper for something to taste good in my opinion! We will usually ask for ours to just be prepared with oil, and no butter!
BRING GG CRACKERS:
We know we had mentioned these crackers in a few other posts. These crackers are amazing and have a ton of fiber. We love bringing the plain ones in our purses to eat with salads, eggs, or swap out bread for. The sweet honey raisin crackers are also great just on their own if you’re craving something sweeter!
KEY WORDS:
Here are some phrases to watch out for when you’re looking at the menu! We tend to stick to the ones on the right, and avoid anything fried, creamy, or glazed (which probably means it has a ton of sugar in it).
BREAKFAST HACKS:
Breakfast is one of our favorite meals! We used to ALWAYS order a huge stack of pancakes, banana and chocolate-chip, to be exact! There is nothing wrong with some pancakes, but we would suggest instead of just ordering a big stack of them, to maybe try ordering an omelette (protein) with one pancake, or whatever the small order is.
We will usually order an omelette with all the vegetables they have and have it cooked with oil, not butter. If it comes with potatoes, we will usually swap them out for a side of fruit or a side salad with dressing on the side. There are also sometimes options like a breakfast hash or breakfast tacos. Just be sure to pick out something with vegetables (fiber) and protein in it!
We would also suggest trying to stay away from creamy sauces (or just ask for them on the side!) We also order hot water with lemon and/or coffee (of course!) We drink our coffee black, but if you can’t drink it black, we suggest bringing liquid stevia (or packets) with you and asking for unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk!
We also sometimes bring our own granola (we love this brand) to use with almond milk or yogurt. Most restaurant granolas can be packed with unnecessary sugars. Occasionally, we will sometimes bring our own syrup, haha. This one is not super “natural”, but it does have no sugars or carbs.
JAPANESE HACKS:
Sushi/Japanese food is always a great option and a go-to for many people! We love ordering sashimi and the seaweed salad! If you do order sushi rolls, we would suggest staying away from anything that has fried stuff on top or any sauces drizzle on top (you can get those on the side)!
Keep in mind that sushi does have a lot of rice on the rolls, so although rice is healthy, it does have a lot of carbs in it. You could try ordering one roll with rice, and one with maybe no rice (wrapped in cucumber) or get some sashimi on the side!
We also love using Liquid Aminos instead of soy sauce. You can bring that with you, instead of using the soy sauce if you’re like us;)
ITALIAN FOOD HACKS:
Italian food was literally a food group in our diet all through high school and college. All we wanted all of the time was pasta and more pasta. Oh, and pizza, too. When we went to Italy, we were amazed at how thin everyone is there, even with all the pasta and pizza. The reason being is that they don’t eat GIANT portions of it. They eat their pasta or pizza as an appetizer, so it is a much smaller portion, and then have fish or chicken as their main course.
If you do decide you want to order pasta as your main course, stick to a marina sauce, and not a cream-based sauce, and add in veggies and protein, like chicken or shrimp! We will usually order fish or chicken with veggies at an Italian restaurant. Sometimes they will bake the chicken in a tomato sauce with olives and other yummy stuff!
CHINESE FOOD HACKS:
Chinese is another cuisine we used to eat all of the time! We basically lived at PF Chang’s and a few other spots in college. We used to always order Lo Mein, Pepper Steak, or Beef and Broccoli. All of those aren’t terrible options, but the sauces tends to be sugary, high in salt, and just not the healthiest choice. Everything is great in moderation, though!
We will usually order one of those dishes with the sauce on the side OR we will order just veggies and chicken, steak, or shrimp steamed, and add hot mustard or a little gluten-free soy sauce or something on top to give it flavor! The egg drop soup is also a great soup option. Another option are the chicken or vegetable lettuce wraps as your meal.
We used to order the dumplings all of the time, but those are not the best choice if you’re trying to stick to healthier options;) Again, moderation is key!
AMERICAN FOOD HACKS:
This one is for all of the typical restaurants! In college, as you can tell, we ate out practically every meal. We used to hit up The Cheesecake Factory a TON. Those bread baskets (OMG). We usually will stay away from the bread baskets just because we could mindlessly eat 5 baskets without realizing. As we mentioned before, it is better to start with a salad rather than eat a ton of bread, and not have an appetite for your actual meal.
We will usually order chicken, steak, or fish with no butter and ask for a side of vegetables or side salad with the dressing on the side. Almost every restaurant will have some sort of burger or sandwich that you can easily ask for wrapped in lettuce or get it the way it comes. We would suggest just eating one of the buns with it, that way you’re getting to have the bun, but not eating both! We would also suggest substituting the fries or chips for a side salad or side of fruit.
If they do have a soup, we would stick to something that is broth-based with vegetables or meat in it, and not something super creamy.
DESSERT/DRINKS:
As far as dessert, we didn’t cover dessert on here because that’s something that we will have as I am craving it. Some of our favorite things to have are gelato or some kind of cake! We recommend thing like sorbets, fresh fruit, a flourless chocolate cake.
As far as drinks, we am probably not the best person to ask when it comes to that. We don’t particular like the taste of alcohol, except for really sweet, cheap wine, sangria, and champagne. If you’re trying to stick to healthier options, we would suggest wine, champagne, or something like tequila, gin, or vodka with fresh lime and/or mint in it. We shared some tips in this post.
Hope this was helpful! If you have any questions at all, feel free to reach out via email or comment below! Check out our fave Dallas spots here.
Happy Friday, y’all! We are excited to share some of our most common questions answered today on the blog! If you all have any other questions you want answered, email us at [email protected]
What is your opinion on laser hair removal? Does it hurt and has it helped, and what areas have you gotten it done?
Before we get into anything about laser hair removal, we want to say that we HIGHLY recommend it. We have been getting ours done at Enlighten MD for almost a year now, and couldn’t be happier with the results. We will have a full blog post on it once we finish all of our treatments. We have gotten treatment on our underarms and bikini. We have seen a dramatic improvement on our underarms and bikini. We used to have a shadow on our underarms by the end of the day after shaving, but now it is so soft (like a baby), and the hair doesn’t really grow back– super fine! The bikini is the same. We have both seen a huge difference! As far as pain, it does hurt, but they give you numbing cream to apply before to help with that a little. The underarms we don’t numb for, but the bikini, we definitely do! The good part is that it only hurts for a second while the laser goes off (almost like a rubber band snap).
What do you like to do to unwind from a hard day?
That is a great question! We are honestly TERRIBLE at slowing down, and that is one of our goals for the new year. To be honest, we will probably be writing a blog post on this specifically because we have both been suffering from Adrenal Fatigue and a ton of constant stress, so we are working on that. We have both started to slow down on our instagram posts each day, just to help alleviate the stress. We are extremely type-A, so it is challenging for us, but our health is more important than anything else. We have been trying to incorporate more yoga (even at home), meditating, going on walks, trying to be present (aka be off the phone and actually relax on the couch or watch a movie). We don’t really take baths, but that can be relaxing! We also loveeee going to reflexology. Look it up if you haven’t been before!
What is your opinion on Lululemon?
We love Lululemon! They have some great pieces. We love their speed shorts and their long-sleeved tops. As far as leggings, we have some of them, but think there are other brands that are just as good! Their mens stuff is really great, too!
What is the best way to get exposure when you’re a new blogger? Sometimes it feels like I am posting for no one but my mom, haha!
That is a great question, and honestly, we feel the same way most of the time, if it makes you feel any better. Instagram has completely changed their algorithm, and people don’t see your posts anymore, unless you’re continuously ‘liking’ and commenting on all of our pictures. We would suggest interacting with other bloggers like commenting on their pictures to get exposure, and just to post consistently. It can be discouraging, but keep going!
How do you make your photo collages for the gift guides?
I use Adobe Photoshop!
What do you usually get done on your nails and where do you go?
We usually get nexgen dip in this color. We go to Castle Nail Spa in Mockingbird station. For those of y’all who don’t know what dip is, or what the difference between that and gel, you can read more in this post.
Who does your hair in Dallas?
We got to Hair By Viviana. We have been going to her since we moved to Dallas 4.5 years ago, and wouldn’t go anywhere else. She is amazing!
What do you all usually eat to stay fit?
We usually will eat something with carbs, protein, and healthy fats. We will usually eat eggs with toast, a smoothie bowl, oatmeal, or something like that for breakfast. For lunch, we will usually have a salad with chicken or salmon, and for dinner, usually some kind of lean protein with vegetables and a healthy carb like sweet potatoes, squash, rice, etc. You can read more about what we eat in a day in this post. We also have snacks throughout the day like hummus and veggies, or a quest bar.
Where can I find your recipe for your smoothie bowls?
You can find the recipe for the smoothie bowl and what we use at the bottom of this post.
I saw that you all got microblading done on your eyebrows. Do you recommend it, and how long does it last?
Yes, we did! We got it done over a year ago at Enlighten MD (more about it in this post). We HIGHLY recommend it. Even a year later, we still only have to fill in our eyebrows a little bit. It lasts about a year, or longer, depending on how active you are, etc. It makes all the difference!
I noticed you all have Apple watches. I was thinking about getting one, but I don’t know which model to buy. What are your thoughts on it?
I am visting Dallas in a couple of weeks. What are some of your favorite restaurants?
Some of our favorite restaurants are: Mudhen Meats in the farmer’s market, Henry’s Majestic, HG Sply Co, Mr. Mesero, Kozy Kitchen, Americano, and Ziziki’s. You can also read some of our other favorite spots in this post.
I am petite like you all. What are some of your favorite jeans?
How do you hear about new restaurants you post on your insta-stories?
We love to use yelp! It is a game changer!
How do you start your day off?
We both usually jump right into work, but are trying to be better about it and get up slowly, eat breakfast before answering any emails, etc. We have been trying to do more yoga in the mornings, but it is still a work in progress. We love to drink hot water with lemon or green tea!
What workout tennis shoes do you like best?
We love this pair for running around, this pair is SO comfy (highly recommend), and this pair is also really comfy.
Does Nordstrom sponsor you and your sister?
Nordstrom does not sponsor us, unless it is noted at the bottom of the blog post. We always disclose when we are patterning with a brand.
How did you first get started as a blogger? Any tips for an aspiring fashion/style blogger?
That is a great question. We actually started in public accounting and just started sharing our outfits, and it kind of took off from there. You can read more about it in this post and this post. We also shared some tips in those posts!
I have never shopped at Shein before? Is it a safe site?
It is a safe site. They have a great mix of trendy pieces, but it is kind of hit or miss. We only share the pieces we like, so we can’t speak for everything on the site. You can use ADOUBLE20 for 20% off.
What are your guys’ resolutions for this year? Any new things you guys are trying out? Any places on your travel bucket list you’re going to?
We haven’t set any major resolutions other than to really slow down this year. We are always “go-go-go” and our health has been really affected by that. We are trying to take more breaks and take more time off of work, so we are not so burnt out. We have been trying to incorporate more yoga, too. We are dying to go to Spain!
What is your go-to-cheat meal? Have you tried veganism?
Our go-to cheat meal is probably ice cream or pizza. We have not tried veganism before. We eat animal products. We have eaten paleo for a little bit.
How did you become insta famous, and actually fund the lifestyle you live? Love you btw!
That is very sweet. We don’t consider ourselves “famous”, but we truly do love what we do. Similar to the question previously, we talked about how we got into blogging and this career in this post. We actually do this full-time and this is how we support ourselves.
What happened to your podcast? Noticed you guys haven’t done an episode in a while. Loved them!
We had to take a break (that wasn’t supposed to be so long) due to schedules, the app we used not working anymore, and just timing. We are definitely planning on having it up again soon– just trying to find the time to start up again!
What is your hair/makeup routine/ what are your fave products?
How do you keep your hair so long and healthy? Any tips?
We only wash our hair about once or twice a week. We take a bunch of vitamins (more in this post) and eat a bunch of fruits and veggie. Oh, and we drink a lot of water!
It is finally feeling like winter in Dallas. We had some days where it was in the 70’s, which was incredible, but now we are in the cooler temps, and it doesn’t seem like it is going to warm up anytime soon! On New Years Day, it is supposed to be 20-something degrees, which is SUPER cold for us! We wanted to share this bundled up look that can be easily stripped down for when you are indoors, and get too warm. This cozy fringe scarf is one of our favorite pieces because it is so warm and cozy, and really keeps you feeling warm. Also, can we talk about this adorable pom beanie?!We layered this black cardigan (which can be worn for so many things– like with jeans or over a dress!) over this grey pocket tee (on sale)! We love these two pieces layered with each other with jeans, or even with a skirt! To finish the look, we added these cropped black leggings (great if you’re petite, like us!) and they are super cute with our fave black slip ons. If you haven’t purchased these shoes yet, highly recommend them. This black bag is a great bag for an everyday bag, and can be worn throughout the year. Such a a classic! Nordstrom, specifically their Young Contemporary department, is definitely one of our favorite places to shop, as y’all can tell!;) They have so many pieces that we love, all at a great price point AND they’re having a major SALE right now! We love that they offer free shipping and returns on all orders!
We had a lot of requests to share some Thanksgiving outfit ideas for y’all! We don’t know about you, but we typically like to be in something that is comfy, but still cute, and hides a major food baby. We shared some ideas last year in this post and this post, and will be sharing more ideas below!
We wanted to give you all four options that can be worn for a Thanksgiving lunch, dinner, Friends-giving, etc.
#1: Print Mixing (perfect for dinner at home or out!)
#2: Dressed Up Denim (could be worn to any event!)
This is a great look that looks put-together, without feeling uncomfortable. The black jeans give it a more dressed-up vibe, and we love this chunky fall-colored sweater. So cozy and it will hide a big food baby! These flats just tie the whole look together and are comfortable enough to run around in all day and night.
#3: Socially Acceptable Leggings (perfect for a day of football and food!)
Who says you can’t wear leggings to Thanksgiving?! These are not just any legging because they have a moto detailing on them, so they look like pants. We paired it with this super soft grey sweater that is a little longer, so it covers your bottom. The ring adds a fun accessory, and the slip ons are so cute and comfy!
#4: The LBD (for those that want to be a little more dressed up!)
You can’t beat an LBD. This dress is a more comfy version and can be styled so many ways. We paired it with a plaid scarf and this super cute leopard beanie we love. You could wear some flat OTK boots, like these, or a higher-heeled boot, if you want.
Below are more outfit ideas, too! We cannotwait until Thanksgiving!!
We also wanted to share more pieces we love below:
